The Houston Astros are already looking toward a major front-office transition after parting ways with general manager Dana Brown on Monday. With the organization expected to search for a new GM in the offseason, questions have also emerged about manager Joe Espada’s future.
Houston has informed Espada that his contract will not be renewed beyond the current season, according to USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale.
Because of a family emergency, according to ESPN, espada was also absent from Sunday’s game. Espada ultimately chose to remain with the team and finish the season. Houston remains tied for the top spot in the American League West, but the team’s recent slide has created plenty of uncertainty around the organization. Astros bench coach Omar López described it as one of the most difficult nights of Espada’s life. Despite the circumstances, Espada is expected to return for Houston’s upcoming series in New York and remains the team’s manager for now.
