The Chicago White Sox defeated the Cleveland Guardians 4-3 to take a commanding 2-0 series lead in Major League Baseball’s playoffs on Monday.
A triple from Jo Adell made it a one-run game heading to the ninth, but Taylor mopped up the final three outs to seal victory. The winner of the Cleveland-Chicago series will face the New York Yankees or Tampa Bay Rays for a place in the World Series. After three straight seasons with 100 or more defeats the White Sox finished the regular season with an 84-78 record, snagging the sixth seed in the American League. They now need only one more win to return to the AL Championship Series for the first time since their World Series-winning campaign in 2005. Sabrowski was replaced by Hunter Gaddis, but the White Sox stretched their advantage when Meidroth singled to score Montgomery for a 4-2 advantage. The Rays, leading 1-0 in the series, were hosting the Yankees in Monday’s other playoff game.
Chicago will host Cleveland in game three of the series on Wednesday.
